“My background is quite varied, I have been a chef and a remedial massage therapist. However I’ve always been really interested in science and geology. I found LTT’s website after searching online. I didn’t want to do a 5-year chemistry degree at university, and noticed that LTT Perth’s MSL40118 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques course was only 6 months.
I really enjoyed this course; it gave me everything I was looking for in terms of maths and a scientific point of view. Before enrolling in this course, I couldn’t do divisions. Since doing this course I have gone from basic maths to completing complex calculations in the lab. It was a bit scary for me at the beginning but Sahar, our trainer, and she was so helpful and patient.
I enjoyed the practical laboratory experience, especially getting confident working with mineral acids. We performed mineral analysis which I really loved.
Since finishing the course, I have had a few interviews with laboratories. I have just accepted a fire assay role with ALS!”
