Frequently Asked Questions

  • As LTT is not registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), our courses will not fulfil the requirements of a study visa. Please visit the CRICOS website to view education providers that offer courses to people studying in Australia on student visas.

  • We work closely with industry and design our programs to best equip graduates for employment. Additionally, we advise students to treat any work placement they may attend as an extended job interview (as providers may recruit new hires from the pool of students on placement in their facilities).

However, there is no job outcome guaranteed after finishing a qualification. As an education provider, we are unable to guarantee a job or provide job agency services for graduates.

Ultimately, as with the majority of vocational and tertiary education, it is up to the individual to secure employment post-study. We refer jobseekers to the range of government and non-government organisations who specialise in offering these services. You can find support options at servicesaustralia.gov.au/looking-for-work-and-job-hunting.

  • LTT offer direct debit payment plans through Ezidebit for some courses / fee types. Please refer to the ‘Fees’ section of the relevant course page or contact our team on 1300 588 588 or info@ltt.edu.au to discuss.

  • All students are required to comply with any relevant state government regulations regarding vaccinations that may be applicable during their training.

Additional requirements for pathology collection students

Work placement is a mandatory component of the Certificate III in Pathology Collection, and students must provide evidence of various vaccinations / immunity to enter clinical facilities and complete placement hours with LTT’s partner pathology providers.

Please refer to the ‘Requirements’ section of the relevant course page for specific vaccines required:

There can be significant timelines associated with certain vaccinations. To avoid delays in securing your work placement, we ask that students organise an appointment with a GP to commence any outstanding vaccinations in a timely manner. Students unable to complete work placement cannot be issued the full qualification, and will be issued a Statement of Attainment for any units of competency successfully completed.

Placements

Applicable to students of the Certificate III in Pathology Collection.

  • You will be assigned to a phlebotomist, who will mentor and supervise you throughout placement. You will receive an induction to the workplace and be required to adhere to your host employer’s policies and procedures as advised, including those related to confidentiality, work, health and safety, clinical practice, hand hygiene, and infection control.

You will have the opportunity to observe experienced pathology collection staff working in a clinical environment, and will likely be required to stand for extended periods of time to perform placement duties as requested. These may include:

    • Collecting and/or labelling pathology samples (e.g., blood, urine, faeces, saliva)

    • Communicating effectively with a diverse set of customers

    • Providing customers with accurate information about the sampling process

    • Preparing and/or delivering samples within set time frames

    • Recording accurate and detailed procedure notes

  • We recommend that students approach work placement like an extended job interview, as providers may choose to recruit new hires from the pool of students on placement in their facilities. Although no job offer is guaranteed, please be aware that your punctuality, presentation, and overall professionalism – not just your clinical skills – will be on display to a potential employer during your time on placement.

With this in mind, please note that students are required to comply with our expectations of conduct (in addition to any policies and procedures advised by the host employer) for the duration of work placement. Failure to do so may result in immediate removal from placement and a Statement of Attainment being issued. To access our Student Code of Conduct, please visit ltt.edu.au/policies-student-documents.

A note on hygiene: Pathology collection work requires you to come into close physical proximity with others, including those who may be hyper-sensitive to smell due to various medical conditions and/or treatments. In consideration of these interactions, students are asked to be especially mindful of personal hygiene during placement. Some students choose to bring a small bottle of mouthwash to use after eating and a roll-on deodorant to reapply during each shift. If wearing perfume or cologne, please apply sparingly and avoid the use of strong fragrances, as these may trigger allergy symptoms in some people.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate requests for specific providers or locations.

We ask that students please refrain from contacting their allocated clinic prior to placement, as this can disrupt the flow of procedures and the supervision of any other students.

  • Students are encouraged to make every effort to be available and attend the placement booked for them.

    • If a student is unable to attend an allocated work placement, a rescheduling fee will be charged per alternative placement required.

    • Placement shifts that are missed (in whole or part) without a medical certificate will incur a non-attendance fee per alternative shift required to make up the necessary hours.

Additional placements and shifts are scheduled at the discretion of the placement provider and may be subject to delays. Please refer to the ‘Fees’ section of the relevant course page or contact our team on 1300 588 588 or info@ltt.edu.au to discuss.

  • Yes, work experience insurance cover is provided and paid for by LTT for students undertaking placement with our clinical partners.

This insurance is related to clinical practice and does not cover your belongings. Please leave valuables at home, as we will be unable to assist in the event of theft, damage or loss.

  • Yes, students are required to organise and cover the costs of their own travel arrangements to attend placement.
