Real student review: Meagan

I started studying with LTT in February 2020. Due to COVID-19, my clinical placement was briefly put on hold so I completed my HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection qualification in July 2020.

My trainer was Kathie Kenny! She is BRILLIANT! I chose to study with LTT as they were recommended to me by a friend in the pathology/healthcare industry.

I really enjoyed my course. The classroom was so much fun. Kathie instilled such confidence in me during bleeds. She made the theory fun too, and related the content to real-life experiences, making it much easier to absorb.

My clinical placement was fantastic. I was in a busy collection room with a great mentor and had the opportunity to do almost 40 bleeds on a wide range of patients.

My favourite part of the course was the hands on learning. The course was much better than I expected and it prepared me really well for the workforce and my current role.

I gained employment a mid July 2020, straight after my placement finished. I’m working with Australian Clinical Labs doing COVID-19 collections at various drive through clinics and I will move into bloods and hospital training in the coming months.

My daily tasks at the COVID-19 collection sites include; strict infection control, patient identification, labelling swabs, and completing paperwork and day book. I also perform throat and nasal swabs (some days 150+ swabs), dealing with people of various ages, abilities and backgrounds. At some sites you work along side NSW Health.

I started working in July during the height of the pandemic. It was fast paced, high volume, physically and mentally exhausting (some sites I have worked at have done 600+ swabs a day, between 5 people) but it’s been so much fun and you know the job you’re doing is really important and highly valued.
