Real student review: Kathy Ruddell February 22, 2022 Sarah Knuckey “Prior to attending LTT, I had been on Workers Compensation due to an injury while working as an Aviation Protection Officer. I had been in the role for 16 years and to be honest, I wasn’t keen about returning to the industry. My work rehab manager found the MSL30118 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills course at LTT Brisbane. I was really interested as I had previously worked in laboratories many years ago.The course was great and I learnt so much. My favourite part was the lab bench work such as testing pH and staining and viewing specimens. I was quite worried about gaining employment as I am in my 60’s, but I landed a job with my first interview! Much has changed since my days in the Lab, almost everything is automated, and computer generated, but I still have the knack for a few manual tasks.I am really loving my new job with Mater in the Haematology department as a Scientific Assistant. Management is very approachable and supportive.I was one of six new employees; all were in their 20’s and another aged 17. Apart from the school leaver, the other new starters were uni students, either newly graduated or still studying.I feel very fortunate to have been considered, but my work rehab manager always reminded me that I have a lot of talents and life experiences to offer.” — Kathy Ruddell, MSL30118 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills student
