About

Two qualifications, both suitable for laboratory technicians or assistants working in secondary and tertiary education, who may be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of science laboratories and the preparation of practical experiments, demonstrations, and testing.


Delivery & Pathways

  • Blended, face-to-face training and online

  • Face-to-face sessions delivered at the school

  • Possible collaboration with other technicians in your area

  • Assessments designed to recognise existing workplace knowledge and skills

Successful completion of the MSL40122 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques enables enrolment into the MSL50118 Diploma of Laboratory Technology.

Successful completion of the MSL50122 Diploma of Laboratory Technology may enable enrolment into the MSL60122 Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Operations.


Option 1: MSL40122 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (only)

This program contains specialised units designed specifically for School Science Technicians.

  • Approx. 12-18 months

Fees

  • New worker funded: $0*

  • Existing worker funded $3,280 or $3,820

  • Non-funded $8,010

*Smart and Skilled funding subject to eligibility checks.


Option 2: MSL50118 Diploma of Laboratory Technology (only)

Must already hold MSL40122 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques. This program reinforces skills and knowledge attained through the Certificate IV, but extends into supervisory requirements not only for schools, but commercial and industrial laboratory environments.

  • 18 units

  • Approx. 12-18 months

Fees

  • New worker funded: $0*

  • Existing worker funded $5,750**

  • Non-funded $9,010**

*Smart and Skilled funding subject to eligibility checks.
**Completing both qualifications may attract credit transfer fee.
