This qualification builds technical ability in the use of laboratory application software, maintaining and controlling stock, performing chemical tests, and more.
The course is designed to provide in-depth insight into the industry and focuses on promoting methodological competence, preparing students for technical jobs as laboratory personnel, including laboratory technicians, technical assistants, and more.

Duration, location & delivery
Face-to-face classes are held at our training centre. We're a 13 minute walk from Glendalough train station.

Classes are held 2 days a week over 25 weeks. Class times are 9am-4pm on Monday and Tuesday. Classes are occasionally held on different days of the week due to public holidays and office closure days, therefore total course duration may be longer than 25 weeks.
Fees
LTT Group are currently awaiting approval from the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) for 2025 subsidised training for MSL40122 under the Participation Work-Readiness program, hence enrolments will only be confirmed once DTWD approves places for subsidised training.

For students eligible for government support
$460.80 capped at $400 maximum in a calendar year - Concession holders / School aged (15 to 17.5 years old)
$1,555.20 capped at $400 maximum in a calendar year - Youth aged (17 to 24 years old)
$1,555.20 capped at $1,200 maximum in a calendar year - Non-concession
This qualification is funded by the Government of Western Australia for students who meet the eligibility criteria under the Jobs and Skills WA. It is part of the Lower fees, local skills program.
An annual fee cap means that concession students and students under 25 years old will pay a maximum of $400 in a calendar year and non-concession students will pay a maximum of $1,200 in a calendar year.
Fees will be determined upon enrolment and based on the eligibility criteria from the Department of Training and Workforce Development “Vet Fees and Charges Policy 2024”. Direct debit payment plans are available to distribute payments over the duration of the course. The Student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such as resource fees and other fees.
For students not eligible for government support
$5,000 - fee for service student tuition fee
To secure your place in class, a $500 deposit is payable upon enrolment (cash and EFT facilities are available). This amount is deducted from the total course fee. Weekly, fortnightly or monthly direct debit payment plans are available to distribute payments of the remaining balance ($4,500) over a 20 week period.
Assessment
Students are assessed on their performance in practical and written assessments.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) and credit transfer processes are available for eligible students. Please contact our team on 1300 588 588 to discuss these options further if you believe you may be eligible for RPL or credit transfer (for equivalent units of competency completed previously). A copy of the original transcript must be provided if applying for a credit transfer.
Should you withdraw before completing the course and / or your clinical work placement hours, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any units of competency achieved.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive the MSL40122 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, which will carry the Nationally Recognised Training logo.
Requirements

No prior qualifications are required to study the MSL40122 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques. While there are no formal entry requirements for the course, a general interest in mathematics and chemistry is recommended, and basic computer literacy is advantageous.
Based on industry consultation and to improve employment prospects, it is recommended students be at least 17 years old to undertake the qualification.
As part of the enrolment process, a comprehensive pre-training review is conducted to capture current competencies (including language, literacy and numeracy). This process also aids in identifying individual learning styles and any support services that may be required so that training delivery can be tailored accordingly.
Students are required to wear closed-in shoes throughout the course, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as instructed during lab work.
