About
The COVID-19 Collection skill set will equip you with the skills and knowledge to collect, prepare and dispatch a pathology specimen for Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing to diagnose infections (such as COVID-19).
These skills can also be used for the collection of pathology specimens in anthropological and forensic examination. This skill set will ensure that the work complies with infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

The course structure is:
Face-to-face classes
2 days for existing workers
eLearning
15 hours
Supervisor/workplace sign off
1 day
Assessment
Students will be required to undertake an eLearning module which includes online theory and assessment.
A third party report completed in the workplace that confirms the students ability to demonstrate the skills and knowledge acquired.
Students will receive a Statement of Attainment for units of competency successfully achieved.
Eligibility & requirements
Students must:
Be a WA resident and 18 years or older
Have physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills
Complete a pre-training review to capture current competencies (including language, literacy and numeracy). This process also aids in identifying individual learning styles and any support services that may be required so that training delivery can be tailored accordingly
Have computer and internet access, basic computer literacy, and a good understanding of written and spoken English
Content
HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures*
HLTPAT004 Collect pathology specimens other than blood*
HLTPAT006 Receive, prepare and dispatch pathology specimens
* National recognition for these units of competency requires candidate work activities to be supervised by a suitably qualified/experienced supervisor.
